A lash lift, often referred to as a lash perm, is a cosmetic treatment aimed at enhancing your natural lashes by curling them upwards with the use of a chemical solution. Unlike eyelash extensions, it doesn't add additional lashes but instead reshapes your current ones to give the illusion of length and volume. Many of these solutions contain keratin, collagen, and other natural components, while steering clear of harsh chemicals such as ammonia or alcohol.
How the Procedure Works
Preparation: The eye area is cleaned to remove makeup, oils, and dirt. Contact lenses should be removed before the treatment.
Silicone Shield Application: A silicone rod or shield is placed on the eyelid, and your lashes are carefully lifted and glued onto it to shape the curl.
Lifting Solution: A perming solution is applied to break the disulfide bonds in the lashes, allowing them to be reshaped. This typically sits for 8–12 minutes depending on lash texture.
Setting Solution: A neutralizing solution is applied to set the curl and stop the chemical process.
Optional Tinting: A lash tint can be applied to darken the lashes, enhancing the mascara-like effect.
Nourishing Serum: A conditioning serum is often applied to hydrate and protect the lashes.
Duration and Results
A lash lift usually lasts 6–8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle. The results give a lifted, curled look that can make lashes appear longer and more defined, often eliminating the need for daily curling or mascara.
